W. James Au

James was a contract writer for Linden Lab, creators of Second Life, primarily hired by the company to cover SL as an embedded journalist in an emerging society-- its controversies, its personalities, its innovations and ambitions, along with larger themes of identity, social norms and organization, and cultural expression important to online worlds in general. His book is coming out this month -- The Making of Second Life and James keeps the blog, New World Notes.
   

Janine Hawkins

Janine has been covering fashion for James' blog, New World Notes. She is

 an English student, and illustrates the "What If" magazine which is a Canadian magazine for teen and youth oriented fiction. She has won several provincial and national awards for her poetry and fiction, and has been interviewed by several papers and media outlets including the CBC, The Daily Mail, and most recently the New York Times, and helped to design a cover for the July/August 2007 issue of MIT's Technology Review. Janine is also the editor and head photographer of Second Style.

David Polinchock

David is the Chief Experience Officer (CXO) at Brand Experience Lab, an innovation think tank, creating the next generation of brand experiences. He is also a leading voice in the conversation on the socialization of retail, exploring how the emergence of online social technologies are impacting the physical retail space. His blog, Experience Manifesto, was called “one of the best blogs so far on experiences and marketing” by leading event design company, Jack Morton.

David is a top-rated speaker, who has spoken on brand experiences, emerging technologies and the future of marketing in South America, the World Summit of Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Oman and across the country at industry events including GlobalShop, ARM Expo, PROMO Live, PMA, the Virginia Healthcare Marketing Association and many POPAI events. David is a contributor to Marketing at Retail and was featured in two recent books, Experience the Message by Max Lenderman and Living Brands by Raymond Nadeau.

Elaine Polvinen

Elaine is Coordinator of Fashion Program at Buffalo State College is teaching Fashion Design in Second Life. She also keeps a blog about the transition and expansion of 2D traditional to 2D Digital to 3D virtual for apparel textile product design, development and retailing. Elaine keeps the blog, Virtual Fashion Technology.

Kathy Savitt

Kathy is the Chief Marketing Officer at American Eagle Outfitters.  She has tapped into the media and technology savvy of the American Eagle Outfitters customer by orchestrating the launch of 77E on the American Eagle website.  Savitt has been instrumental in the company’s foray into this and other forms of social media to elevate awareness of the American Eagle brand and increase visitor traffic and sales on the American Eagle website.

Shenlei Winkler

Shenlei combines 20 years of couture and mass market fashion design experience with 10 years of technical marketing experience with value added resellers. She successfully secured multi-million dollar funding for several large scale science & technology projects at the astrophysics department at the University of Chicago. As a fashion designer, Winkler designed and sold multiple styles to the #1 global retailer, resulting in more than $30MM in sales per collection. She created a profitable virtual world fashion business and was one of the top 400 earners in Second LifeTM, and she currently maintains a five-island complex in Second Life. Winkler is the founder and CEO of the Fashion Research Institute, Inc. (www.fashionresearchinstitute.com), which through its subsidiaries, Fashion Research, Inc. and Black Dress Technology, Inc., is collaborating with IBM to develop a virtual world product design PLM enterprise solution as well as a virtual worlds-based ACIS-accredited distance learning organization.

Raymond Yee

Yee is author of Pro Web 2.0 Mashups: Remixing Data and Web Services and a  lecturer at the School of Information, UC Berkeley. Yee is also the primary architect of the Scholar's Box, software that enables users to gather digital content from multiple sources to create personal collections that can be shared with others.  As a software architect and developer, he focuses on developing software to support learning, teaching, scholarship, and research.
