Walk with us on October 21, 2007 for the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Walk through Central Park!! If you are not able to walk with us, but would still like to participate, please go to: Team FIT...Support Us!

 

Fashion Week
Check out our Fashion Week Webpage!! If you are interested in volunteering for Fashion Week, please remember that it takes place twice a year at the beginning of February and September. We start getting information about the events in the previous months (January and August). We get new volunteer activities in every few days, especially during Fashion Week, so make sure you come up to SVCS and check the boards!!

Animals

 

Brooklyn Animal Rescue

Volunteer Dog Walkers Needed - Flexible schedule & located 1 stop out on the L train

 

Kitty Kind

Volunteers are needed for a few hours one shift a week at Petco in Union Square. Volunteers would help feed the cats and clean their cages. VOLUNTEERS MUST BE DEPENDABLE!!  

 

Mighty Mutts

Mighty Mutts is a non-profit, no kill, rescue organization. Volunteers are needed for one Saturday a month for 2 hours or more in Union Square Park.

Beauty

 

L'Oreal Consumer Research

Largest hair care company needs volunteers to help evaluate their products! They need Male & Female volunteers of all hair types and colors (doesn’t have to be virgin hair). You can choose what you would like done to your hair, no hair cutting. Volunteers would evaluate hair care products such as shampoo, conditioner, treatment products, highlights, lowlights, relaxing, straightening, and styling products.

 

Clairol Research Forum
Clairol’s Consumer Research Forum is looking for volunteers to participate in hair color and hair care research studies. Selected participants will try new products and be compensated for their opinions. All hair types are needed!

Children's Hope Foundation
Please visit SVCS for current events for this organization.

 

Purls of Hope
Do you knit or do you want to learn how? Why not use your hobby for children. Weekly gatherings are sponsored by the Children’s Hope Foundation. One night a week, make new friends while you knit!

 

New York Urban League
New York Urban League’s Renaissance After-School Program is looking for volunteers to work with elementary school children. The area in which help is needed is a Volunteer Home Work Helper and a Volunteer Art Director.

Donations & Drives

 

Toy Donations!
SVCS collects toys year-round. Toys are needed for all ages. We only accept NEW toys still in their packaging. We have a specific need for:

 - Children and young adult books (all ages)

 - Educational toys (especially things like Leap Pad)

 - Electronics for older children (like CD players & remote-controlled cars)

 - Stuffed animals, dolls, and action figures

 - Toys & Games for 10+ years and toys for 1-18months

 - Gift Certificates for Teens (like Macy's, Best Buy, etc...)

 

Donate Your Old Cell Phone
Bring your used/old cell phone up to SVCS in the Department of Student Life! All wireless phone models from any carrier will be accepted including phones with or without chargers. The phones will be refurbished or sold through the company's HopeLine Recycling Program, and either phones or cash will be donated to non-profit domestic violence agencies, including the NYC Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence for distribution to City agencies.

 

School Supply Drive
Donations are accepted year-round in SVCS. Bailey House needs school supplies donated to give to children returning to school.

Lighthouse International - POSH Sale

EVERY SPRING- Volunteers are needed to organize and pack merchandise at a sale of clothing, accessories, and home furnishings. Funds raised from the sale will support services for the visually impaired.

 

International Center of Photography

Volunteers are needed at the International Center of Photography for various activities. Volunteers should be interested in photography and museum work.

Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation
The following Volunteer positions are available:

- Marketing and PR Assistants

- Graphic Designers

- Special Events

- Hotline Operators/Phone Counselors

- Corporate Research and Grant Management

- Additional Opportunities

 

Local Soup Kitchen
Holy Apostle's Soup Kitchen, near FIT, needs volunteers to help prepare and serve food to the hungry. The daily shift is from 9:45 am to 1:15 pm.

 

Bailey House
Volunteers are needed to help out in their many programs throughout the year. You can assist in any of the following areas:
 - Volunteer In A Pinch (VIP)- assisting the elderly with daily errands.
 - Recreational Volunteers- assisting with entertainment activities like bingo, birthday

   parties, etc.

Senior Citizens

 

Visiting Neighbors
Volunteer to visit a senior for a few hours talking about memories, current events, or common interests. Volunteer to help seniors run errands, grocery shopping, or go for a walk. Volunteers provide emotional support and a strong arm to lean on.

 

Westside Ecumenical Ministry for the Elderly (WEME)
They are looking for volunteers for their Arts in the Home Program, Special Holiday Card Program, Friendly Visiting, and Meal Packing and Delivery Program. You will be required to assist and accompany homebound seniors.

Tutoring

 

Cornerstone Learning Center
Volunteers needed to help adolescents succeed. Volunteers will tutor middle school students in reading, math, and writing. Also help guide students with projects. Volunteer for 90 minutes one day a week.
