School of Liberal Arts

SC 252 — Environmental Science
 
Examines the environmental problems and issues of land, air, and water pollution; waste disposal and recycling; renewable and nonrenewable energy; population; and government regulation that threaten human health and welfare in a modern, growth-oriented society. Field trips are taken to science museums, a municipal waste-water facility, a marine transfer station, and other locations. (G3: Natural Sciences)

SC 253 — Ecology and Environmental Problems

Introduces principles and applications of ecosystem, community, and population ecology, with particular emphasis on the effects of human activities on the natural environment. Current problems in acidification, conservation biology, desertification, global climate change, habitat destruction, ozone depletion, waste management, and pollution are addressed. (G3: Natural Sciences)


School of Art and Design

ID 472 — Ecology and the Built Environment

The growing impact of ecology on the interior design profession is studied and includes such topics as non-depletable energy services, energy conservation, and resource conservation. Students explore the relationships between ecology and building construction, furniture, furnishings, equipment, building mechanical systems, and building maintenance. Recycling, reuse, and ecological awareness are among the areas studied.

PK 431 — Sustainable Packaging Design
1.5 credits; 3 STUDIO hours per week
Co-requisite: PK 412
This course introduces students to the environmental and social issues relating to packaging, and provides them with the knowledge and tools to address these issues in a creative, economical, responsible, and sustainable way.
 


School of Business and Technology

IN342 - International Corporate Responsibility

Students study the sustainability movement, and how ethical, social and environmental issues are being addressed by multi-national corporations. Through the review of current case studies, the course examines the role of fashion businesses in creating socially responsible and eco-friendly global supply chains and their effect in international trade policies.
