1. What is the student activity fee and what does it cover?
All students who are registered for twelve or more credits
pay a student activity fee of $60.00 per semester. These
funds are allocated by the FIT Student Association to over
seventy clubs and organizations to implement all the extra
curricular activities on campus.
2. What is FITSA?
FITSA is the FIT Student Association or government on
campus. The Student Council meets monthly and is made up of
annually elected student committee members, the annually
elected Executive and Programming Board members and one
representative from every recognized club and organization
on campus. Council is open to all students who pay the
student activity fee and voting privileges are granted after
one attends two consecutive meetings.
3. How can I get involved in student government?
In addition to running for elected office, or representing
a club or committee at the Student Council meetings, all
students are eligible to become members of all college
committees that deal with curriculum, admission policies,
library, diversity, student affairs, etc. Once a year, in
the Fall, elections are held for these committees at a
Student Council meeting. In addition, Student Council
meetings, held once a month during a Tuesday common hour,
are open to all students. After attending two consecutive
meetings, a student receives voting privileges.
4. How do I join a club?
• If you are a new student, complete the Connections
Brochure application and submit it to the Department of
Student Life – A building, Room 713.
• Meet current members and sign up at Clubs Carnival held in
September of each year.
• Check the individual club flyers on the 7th Floor of the A
building
5. How do I start a club?
All you need are ten interested students, a faculty or
staff advisor and a stated purpose. Visit the department of
student life to complete a registration form, get
recommended by the FITSA Executive Board, and voted on by
the Student Council
6. How do I find out what’s happening on campus?
• Visit the Department of Student Life to review club flyers
for all of the 75 registered student organizations on
campus.
• Review Highlights – our
student events calendar
• Check out all of the Bulletin Boards on campus!
7. How do I pay for any programs or services offered by
Student Life and FITSA?
No checks or credit cards, just cash!
8. What do I need to do to participate in graduation
ceremonies?
• Complete the Application for graduation cards in the
Registrars Office in the early Fall of your graduation year
• Sign up for your Yearbook picture in the Department of
Student Life
• All AAS and Masters candidates must order a cap and gown
during one of the four scheduled times for ordering.
Bachelor candidates who have their cap and gown must
purchase a tassel.
• In early May, dates are in the student handbook, pick up
your ordered cap and gown and three tickets. You may also
put your name on the waiting list if extra tickets become
available.
9. What is Leadership Workshop and how can I participate?
Twice a year the student government funds a weekend off
campus retreat for students interested in learning group
dynamic and shared leadership skills. Applications can be
obtained in the Department of Student Life
10. What is the Cultural Ticket Reimbursement Program?
FITSA subsidizes a program that reimburses students up to
$15.00 per student for one ticket to an upcoming cultural
event once a year. Limited funds are available. See the
department for details.
11. How can I volunteer?
Check the bulletin boards in the SVCS Section of the
Department of Student Life or the SVCS Website

12. Where can I register to vote?
Visit the Department of Student Life and see the SVCS
Coordinator. We have a Voter Registration Drive that is on
going and a Voter Registration booth at our SVCS Fair each
fall.
13. Where is the Center?
The Center is located on the 7th floor of the A building.
As you exit the elevator turn left!
The Center sponsors workshops, seminars, videos and other activities to help
students develop leisure time hobbies and skills.
14. Is there a Campus Ministry?
Yes. There is an interfaith referral center located on the
7th floor of the A building.
