Led by President Joyce F. Brown in 2004-05, the college community embarked upon a
yearlong strategic planning process in order to explore key questions of
institutional identity and frame a vision of the FIT of tomorrow. The project,
called
2020: FIT at 75, Bringing the Future into Focus, promises to be both
challenging and invigorating, and will provide a framework of goals and
initiatives for the next ten to fifteen years.
In the past, such planning efforts at FIT have focused on—and
met—many of the college’s basic needs. Now it is time to
more fully imagine its place in the world at large.
Articulating that vision requires an unprecedented amount of energy,
imagination, and interaction from each facet of the college community.
“I firmly believe that a strategic plan can only work when it is
branded with the community stamp,” President Brown said. The process,
which is being facilitated by The Learning Alliance, stresses community-wide
participation and communication and focuses on identifying goals and
initiatives to help FIT continue to fulfill its mission in a changing world.
Where will FIT be—what will FIT be—15, 25, or even 60 years
from today? It’s time to write FIT’s story for tomorrow.
