FIT SECURITY DEPARTMENT
SERVICES
The Security Department consists of
proprietary security personnel and contract security
officers provided by U.S. Security Associates, Inc. The Director and deputy
director, with professional law enforcement backgrounds,
administer the Security Department. FIT has been
approved as a Security Guard Training School, and security
personnel are provided with the required New York State
eight hours annual in-service, as well as, other health and
safety training when available. The security staff is
unarmed but equipped with portable two-way radios. The
staff works closely and cooperatively with members of the
New York City Police Department, 10th Precinct.
The Operational Services Unit maintains the college
buildings and grounds, with a concern for safety and
security, through a contractual agreement with American
Building Management. The department routinely inspects
campus facilities, promptly repairing conditions which could
affect safety and security, and responding to reports of
potential safety and security hazards, such as broken
windows or inadequate lighting. A locksmith assigned
to this office responds to reports of defective locks and
panic bar hardware to ensure that safety and security
hazards are eliminated in a timely manner. All safety
and security hazards should be promptly reported to the
Operational Services Unit located in Room A101, ext. 7-7721
during normal business hours, or to the Security Department
during non-business hours.
Campus Safety and Law Enforcement
Security is everyone's business. All members of the FIT community are
encouraged to call or visit the Security Office, Room D442, ext. 7-7777 to
discuss or report any matter concerning safety and security. Security
serves the campus 24 hours a day, every day.

Access
The campus is open to students from 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. when classes are
in session. Students may also be granted access to certain classrooms
until 2:00 a.m. by properly completing a Student Room Request form and having
approved by the appropriate office. For student request forms, contact
your department office. Failure to comply with the strict requirement of
this policy may result in the student(s) losing the privilege of working on
campus at unusual times. Security reserves the right to request student
and staff IDs and to ascertain that persons are engaging in legitimate
college-related activities. Any person causing a disturbance or remaining
in an unauthorized area when the college is not in session may be asked to leave
the campus.
The campus also serves the intellectual and cultural life of the community by
providing enrichment programs that are handled through the Facilities Rental
Office (C214) and are open to the general public. The Security Department
is informed of all such special events and provides assistance when required.
