ESL Summer Group Frequently Asked Questions 

 

 

What are the housing requirements for ESL Students?

Must be enrolled in the ESL Program. (Proof of registration is required)

Must pay for the entire summer housing rate. (Proof of payment is required)

Must complete Orientation Questionnaire with a passing grade. (Applies to all applicants new to the Residence Halls)

 

When will applications be available and how can a student apply?

Applications will be available by late April 2009.  APPLICATION NO LONGER AVAILABLE 

How are ESL students assigned single rooms?

Once students apply for a single and pay the single rate, they will be assigned a single.   In Alumni Hall although you will have your own “bedroom” you will be sharing your kitchen and bathroom with two other residents living in the second bedroom.

 

Do I have to pay in full?

Yes, to reserve a space full payment is due immediately. You may pay by credit card on-line, or fax your credit card information to the bursar’s office.  Be sure that it includes the amount you are paying, you first and last name and your FIT student ID number.

 

Do you offer refunds for summer housing?

No, there are no refunds once payment has been received.

 

Where is Alumni Hall located?

Alumni Hall is located at 210 West 27th Street across from the D building. 

 

Can a student move in earlier or stay beyond the contracted date?

No, the ESL program is from June 25th, 2009 – July 17th, 2009 ONLY. 

 

Are there any activities on weekends or evenings when classes are not held?

No, the residence halls do not provide programming during the summer session.


Is the cafeteria opened during the summer sessions?

No,  however we are conveniently located close to many restaurants, delis, and grocery stores.  Click here to view the FIT neighborhood.

 

What furniture is provided in a suite?

All suites consist of furnished rooms (twin bed, desk, wardrobe/closet, and night stands), kitchen, private bath, internet and cable hook up.  There is no wireless internet at this time.  You must provide your own kitchen supplies, linens, and pillows and blankets, Ethernet and cable cord.  Click here to view pictures of the residence hall. 

 

Will there be a gym facility on campus?

Yes, there are gyms at both our 27th street and 31st campuses.  Both will be open limited hours during the summer. 

 

May I have guests visit me in the residence halls?

Yes, you may have guests visit you in the residence halls.  There is limited overnight visitation during the summer requiring a $10 overnight visitation fee per night per person.  For additional information please review FIT’s handbook for more on our visitation and overnight guest policies.  Click here for more on FIT visitation policy.

 

How do I get to FIT and is it accessible to public transportation?

FIT is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan near all public transportation, restaurants and shoppingWe are walking distance from Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, Jacob Javits Center, etc…
