RESTRICTIONS ON NON-DEGREE
STUDENTS
If you are a non-degree student at
FIT and plan to seek admission to an FIT associate or bachelor's degree program
in the future, the following restrictions apply:
1. No more than 30 credits taken at
FIT in non-degree status may be applied towards a degree.
2. A minimum of 50% of the credits
identified in an FIT degree program as major and related area credits must be
taken in degree status.
Therefore, students who have been
attending in non-degree status and who wish to seek a degree, are advised to
apply for admissions before accumulating more than 24 credits. Please
refer to the
Office of Admissions website for more
information on this process.
REGISTER FOR COURSES
Courses that are open to non-degree
students are typically scheduled during the evening and on the weekend; these
courses may
or may not carry college credit. While some credit-bearing courses are
reserved for degree students only, all students must meet prerequisite
requirements for any course they plan to take.
Non-degree students who wish to take
credit or non-credit courses should see "Registration Instructions" in the
School of Continuing and Professional Studies,
www.fitnyc.edu/continuinged.
Non-degree students who did not
attend FIT during the previous semester must also complete and submit the
non-degree enrollment form to have an active student record
created.
Pre-registration is available to
non-degree students each fall and spring term. In addition, an arena registration is held in the gym the week before classes start each
fall and spring. During the week of arena registration, registration and
advisement are available to non-degree students from 5-7 p.m. only. Faculty advisors from each major department are
available to answer questions and to provide information about courses
offered. Please see the School of
Continuing and Professional Studies for details about open houses and additional advising.
