Currently there are nine Registrars who are assigned to work with specific major
departments and track students' degree requirements. For degree
requirements, students should refer to major page in the
FIT catalogue (select
the year based on your admission date)
and their
degree audits.
Registrars have the following responsibilities:
TRANSFER CREDIT
• Liberal arts courses completed at another college or university are
evaluated for possible transfer credit by the Registrar. (Please see
transfer credit evaluation for a
full explanation.) Major area course work is evaluated by the Department
Chairperson.
• Students who have questions about transfer credit in liberal arts that
has been (or has not been) awarded may fill-out an
intake form in the Registrar’s Office, Room C158 or
download the form to submit to the Registrar’s Office.
• Matriculated students who wish to take a liberal arts course(s) at
another institution during the winter or summer intersession are encouraged to
request permission to transfer credits prior to registering for courses. (Please
see
permission to transfer credit form.)
PURSUIT OF DEGREE
Students’ progress in a degree program is tracked by the Registrar. It
is the Registrar who certifies the completion of the degree requirements. To
qualify for the degree, students must
• be officially admitted to degree status;
• satisfactorily complete the credit and course requirements prescribed
for their major, related areas, and liberal arts;
• achieve a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for all work completed;
• and receive the recommendation of the faculty.
GRADUATION ADVISEMENT
Students who wish to review their progress toward graduation and/or have
questions about college policies relating to degree requirements may
speak to a Registrar during walk-in
graduation advisement or may fill-out an
intake form in Room C158. A
Registrar will contact the student to respond to the student’s written inquiry.
Advisement on
SUNY General Education requirements
is also provided to all bachelor's level students.
RE-EVALUATION OF GRADUATION
Previously matriculated students who did not graduate and who are no
longer enrolled, may request a graduation eligibility review. (Please see
form.) Written information
will be provided to the student on his/her status toward meeting degree
requirements. If the student wishes to enroll at FIT to complete the degree
requirements, an application for re-admission must be filed with the Admissions
Office and an admission decision must be rendered. Students who plan to complete
the required courses at another institution, should submit the permission to
transfer credit form.
All requirements for a degree must be completed within ten years from
the point of admission. After ten years, those major courses previously
completed must be approved to fulfill current degree requirements by the
chairperson of the major department. It is the student’s responsibility to
contact the department chairperson for a review of coursework and to obtain
written permission for all courses approved to meet current degree requirements.
A copy of the written permission must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office
before any further graduation review will take place.
