Acoustic Music Club: This semester, Prof. Stephanie Bird and I continued to try to develop a new student club. We began meeting in November 2004 with several students who enjoy playing music and singing songs for fun. We've been meeting on Thursday afternoons during Common Hour. As the group grows, we hope to become an official club. Students who are interested in becoming members should contact me at 212-217-7460, or stop by the Health and Physical Education office in AX13, in the subbasement of the A Building

Recent Awards: My book, The Continuum Complete International Encyclopedia of Sexuality, a copy of which I donated to the FIT Library, received two honors in early 2005: the first Annual Book Award for 2005 by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), and one of the Outstanding Academic Titles of 2004 by CHOICE, the American Library Association’s Association of College & Research Libraries’ journal for academic libraries. For some reviews and more information, see the CCIES website: http://www.SexQuest.com/ccies/.

Liberal Arts Roundtable: On September 21, 2004, I presented a conversation with Dr. Robert T. Francoeur, co-editor with me on the Continuum Complete International Encyclopedia of Sexuality, titled "The Religious and Secular Suppression of Female Sexuality Worldwide." Among the questions we addressed was: How can we understand and appreciate the differences that exist that are increasingly having an impact on American culture?

Recent Article Published: In 2004, I had an article appear in the Fall 2004 issue of CrossCurrents, a journal devoted to religion and culture, in a special issue, "Flesh and Spirit: Essays on Sexuality": "Female Sexuality Today: Challenging Cultural Repression" (Robert T. Francoeur, Ph.D., Raymond J. Noonan, Ph.D., Beldina Opiyo-Omolo, M.P.H., and Jakob Pastoetter, Ph.D.; vol. 54, no. 3, pp. 55-71). Along with Beldina, our associate editor for Africa, and Jakob, our associate editor for Europe, we addressed some of the same material from the Encyclopedia that Bob and I discussed in our September Liberal Arts Roundtable.
