Small Business Startup
Pre-College Program - HMG
165 A
Production Management
I
became interested in this course after becoming a freelance
makeup artist and needing to learn how to market myself. I
have taken two classes at FIT in the past and I would love
to go to college here. As a makeup artist, I need to be able
to represent myself in the most professional way possible,
but also to represent myself as a creative person. One of
the job requirements is to be as new and updated as
possible, and this requires immersion in not only the beauty
industry, but also that of fashion. Keeping constantly in
with the right crowd requires networking correctly and
professionally, and I hope that is what this course can
teach me. The fashion industry is very cut-throat, and I
must learn to be the best business woman I can possibly be
to get the most lucrative jobs possible.
So far in this class, I have learned
immensely about the different methods of starting and
maintaining a small business. I have learned a lot of skills
that are necessary to market myself in my career as a makeup
artist. Professor Vega is very realistic about expectations,
start-up cost, etc. I am very happy that I have him as a
teacher because he has taught me so much about business and
marketing that I would have never been able to learn by
myself. I have new skills for selling my services online and
in person, which are very important for breaking into the
fashion market at such a young age. I am very thankful to
have taken this course not only because of all I've learned,
but also because I have learned what appeals to consumers
and future clientele. Professor Vega has years of experience
in the New York market, so I believe his insight is without
a price tag.
Taking this class was a great experience
for me. I learned so much about business that most
people my age do not know. I learned about everything
that it takes to create a successful business, and
hopefully, what I learned will help me in the future.
Although a lot of the information given in the course did
not apply to the particular business venture I am hoping to
go into, I think that it was valuable information that
anyone who is planning to go into the industry. I
truly enjoyed being in the environment with other students
who are looking to learn about business as well.
Overall, I am very happy I took the class and cannot wait to
use the skills I learned throughout.
The Small Business Start Up course taught
me so much about business that I would have not learned
otherwise. Prof. Ari Vega is an amazing professor, and
without his guidance, I may not still be interested in
business. I now have the proper tools to begin in the
world of commerce. I know how to market myself, and
have the proper backing with paperwork, etc. Over the course
of the class, I made all of the proper goods to help me go
out on my own. I am very thankful for having taken
this class, and the knowledge it bestowed upon me is
priceless. - Charlotte Bentley
