Hello, my name is Viviana Solomon. I’m a senior at high school and can’t wait to get my fashion career started.  In the future I would like to create my own boutique for women’s clothing. I have taken another Saturday Live class before at FIT, but in the first week this one already seems to be my favorite.  This class in my opinion will be very helpful in starting my own business. I can’t wait to develop my business idea in this class.

Over these past few weeks, I have already done so many things to expand my business. I've made business cards and an opening day flyer. I didn't realize how much this class would me help develop my ideas. My favorite part of the class is the creative part. In this part we actually make the things needed for a business. I like to use Photoshop to make things I need and to be creative. I  really like the fact this class is not all business and boring, we have our own time. It gives me time to get things I need to do for my business done. This class helps me to be productive and is helping me move forward with my business ideas.

Hello, my name is Maria and I’m a senior in High school. This is my third FIT pre-college course that I have taken and I took this class because in the future I would like to open up a store with my friend Ashley which is also taking this class.

Ever since I can remember I’ve been interested in fashion and it’s always been a part of my life.  I realized that I wanted to be in the business part of fashion because I would I like to work behind the scenes. There are many departments in fashion that I’m interested in and that I would like to pursue in my career.  When my friend and I open our store together I would like to be a freelance stylist on the side also.  I would like to work for magazines, photographers, and do editorials or advertisements.  So far I’m enjoying this class it’s very interactive and the skills that I’m learning will definitely help me in the future.

My name is Liz Wyrembek. I have a love of fashion and an interest in business. I began taking Saturday Live classes at FIT during my sophomore year of high school. Small-Business start-up is a great program because I use my creative pursuits, my fashion taste, and my business skills all in one class. In this course, I have the opportunity to create my business from the ground-up.  It’s amazing to me how much thought and work goes into starting a business.

It’s my second week, and I’ve already learned so much. I’ve enjoyed this class because it’s not strictly about fashion, but delves deeper into the business side. Through this class, I’m learning industry terminology,  I’m excited to learn more about production management. This class gives me information and tools I need to pursue my dreams/ambitions within the fashion industry.

First Summary

This is my 6th session at the FIT precollege program.  Through Small Business Start-Up I’ve acquired extensive knowledge of product development, entrepreneurship, and the elements of a business.  I’ve created business cards and a store logo, while having magnificent fun along the way. The tremendous effort and perseverance required in starting a business fascinates me. I enjoy forging new friendships with my classmates; all of whom , like me, are interested in fashion. I feel an immense difference between my high school courses, and FIT’s precollege program. Most professors here have real-life experience in the industry, and can provide genuine experiences and insight. Small Business Start-Up and Prof. Ari Vega have helped me explore my creative vision and garner my financial skills.

Hi! My name is Brianna Balestrieri and I am a senior in high school from NJ.  I started taking sewing classes my freshmen year in school and when they weren't quite what I was looking for I switched to an out of school sewing class, A+ sewing school in NJ. I've always loved kids and adored their energy. That is why it has been a dream of mine for a while to start up my own children's boutique.

I wanted to take the small business start up class to learn some basic things about business, but it’s been three weeks and now I know the class is a lot more than that. So far I love the class.  Professor Vega’s energy is great and he makes you believe turning your dream of a small business into reality is possible. The class already has opened my eyes to many things that go into starting up a business. We have already made business cards, letterheads, and opening day flyers. I’m enjoying the class immensely and am excited to see what we do next.

Hello, my name is Ashley Woelfel and I'm seventeen years old and a senior in high school.  This is my fifth pre-college course at FIT and so far one of my favorites.  I also take fashion merchandising at another school.  In the two weeks I've been here, I have learned so much and it really is helping me sort out what I want to do in the future.  I've always been interested in the business side of fashion because I enjoyed it better.

There's just so many careers in the business side of fashion and I think I have finally found my "niche".  My friend and I would love to open up a unique vintage/modern shop in the future and this class is helping us on what we need to do.  This class is fun, enjoyable and informative and I'm excited to see how much more we learn.

I feel we have been learning so much and I’m really enjoying it.  Prof. Vega is giving us assignments such as making business cards, business header letter formats and flyers.  He helps us research on the internet, you have to know that research is really important for opening a business. You must research everything you come across.  I am glad I’ve taken this class, in the beginning I was applying to FIT with a major of fashion merchandising but when I did apply for this fall, I’ve switched my major to production management.  I feel confident that this is something I would love to do in the future and I know this class will just get better and better with informative tips.

Hi, my name is Zane; I’m a sophomore in High school. I have been taking pre-college classes at FIT since last year.  This class on small business start up is a good class to pave the way to making a successful business. The class is a great experience for me in many ways, to be able to learn what goes into creating a successful business, and how to maintain the business.  So far I’ve turned my idea into a starting business, creating letterheads, business cards, a logo, and so much more.  I enjoy this class and look forward to what we are going to learn next.
