MESSAGE FROM THE ADVISORS |

PROFESSOR JOSEPH ANTEE |
|
I have had the honor of being the faculty advisor to the Merchandising Society/Style Shop for three years now and I can honestly say it has gotten better over these few years. Each class out performs the class before it. The student dedication is the reason why I am so committed to the largest and most successful club on campus. I am motivated by each student’s loyalty and passion for the Merchandising Society. Because of these amazing students, the Society is enjoying a growing reputation, not only in the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business & Technology, but campus wide. We have continuously enhanced our professional reputation in the fashion industry, not only in NYC, but nation wide. We recently accommodated the faculty from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, they’re interested in starting a similar campus boutique. We also hosted Betsy Hilfiger, she was most impressed with the campus boutique. We have many honored speakers at our weekly meetings, from alumni in their first industry positions, to CEO’s of major fashion companies. This past October the Society visited TJX Corporation and Johnny Cupcakes in Boston. I look forward to every semester to see how we can continue to grow and exceed any challenge. I invite all FIT students to consider joining the Merchandising Society. Joseph Antee, Assistant Professor, Faculty Advisor to the Merchandising Society at The Fashion Institute of Technology. New York City. |

I
have advised the Merchandising Society since 1996; that was before the FIT
Style Shop in the A Building lobby even existed. At that time the club held
meetings and made plans for guest speakers to visit, and for club members to
visit showrooms in Manhattan. As the club grew, so did the ambition and
aspirations of the club members. Before long, the club was planning trips
around the United States to visit major retailers and manufacturers; giving
students the opportunity to have an intimate audience with executives in
buying, planning and merchandising. These trips continue provide rare
opportunities to speak with VP’s and CEO’s, the major decision-makers in the
industry.
Soon after, the idea for the FIT Style Shop was made a reality. Both clubs have come a long way, thanks to the contributions of our current students and those who have graduated. I hope you will become a part of this wonderful club and make your contribution to its continued prosperity. I promise you will have a great time and meet wonderful students who will become your colleagues in the industry and maybe lifelong friends too! I thoroughly enjoy advising the students. Being an adviser allows me to get to know students on a different level than just in the classroom. I am extremely proud of the professionalism of the students who run the FIT Style Shop and participate in the Merchandising Society. These are the future leaders of the industry and I am proud to be such an important part of their college life. I know this will be a time they will all remember fondly for many years to come. I look forward to meeting you soon, Sincerely, Professor Jane Werner, Merchandising Society and FIT Style Shop Advisor and Professor, Fashion Merchandising Management Department |
