Orientation to the Library

The Library can arrange an orientation to the Library for you, designing that orientation to your situation and subject interests. Telephone the Reference Department at (212) 217-4400.

 

Elevators

Access to Library 4th and 6th floors by elevator can be arranged by speaking to a member of the staff at the Circulation Desk on the fifth floor.

Retrieving Books from Stacks

We retrieve books from the shelves for you on request.
 

 

Borrowing and Renewing Material

If you have a mobility disability, we permit you to renew Library materials by telephone. Arrange this procedure with the Circulation Desk or telephone (212) 217-4360 at the beginning of the semester or as needed, but before the due date for the loaned materials.
 

 

Photocopying

A wheelchair accessible copy machine is available on the library stairway landing at the fifth floor.
 

 

COMPUTER WORKSTATIONS

ADA Compliant computer workstations are available on the:

• 4th floor, Reference Reading Room: PC with Internet, Microsoft Office Suite; printing
• 5th floor, Hallway: PC Kiosk; Internet browsing; Microsoft Office Suite; no printing
• 6th floor, Periodicals Reading Room, PC with Internet, Microsoft Office Suite; no printing
 

 

Enlargement of Text or Images

The Optelec enlarges printed text or visual images. This machine is located in the northwest corner of the fifth floor reading room, near the books beginning with call number "P."
 

 

Reading machine

Kurzweil's Reading Edge scans and vocalizes English language printed text. This machine is useful to persons who are visually impaired, have reading-related learning disabilities, or who are slow readers. The Library also has Kurzweil 3000 software installed on a dedicated PC workstation. Bring your own headphones, or use headphones provided by the Library. The Reading Edge is available by appointment. Contact the Circulation Desk on the fifth floor or telephone (212) 217-4360. If you require instruction in the use of the Reading Edge, we will schedule an appointment for you with a trainer.
