General Library Policies
Revised 3/29/2009

Several policies are in place to protect our collections/equipment and to provide a comfortable environment in which all patrons can work.  Your cooperation and consideration is appreciated.

FIT Library Food & Drink Policy

In response to concerns expressed by Library users and Library staff, FIT Library is enforcing a new Food & Drink Policy effective immediately. The policy calls for absolutely no eating or beverage consumption in any area of the Library other than the area on the 5th floor before crossing the book detection gates (just outside the 5th floor elevators).

Food and beverages (including water) are not permitted in the Library.

The Library Food & Drink Policy is designed to protect library materials, furnishings and equipment from damages due to the presence of food and drink, including water and candy, in the Library.

Individuals drinking beverages/or eating in the Library will be asked to:
• dispose of the item(s) immediately in trash receptacles.

• take their food or beverage to the 5th floor eating alcove, or leave the Library immediately.

• In the event of food and/or drink damage to library materials, furnishings, equipment, etc., the individual(s) will be responsible for costs of replacement, repair or clean up of damaged item(s).

Cell phones
Cell phones and pagers must be turned off or set to vibrate.  Please make or receive calls in stairwells or outside the Library.

damaged library materials
Please bring them to  library staff. Do not attempt to repair the item. Help us preserve items in the collection by keeping food and beverages away from them and protecting them from rain or snow. If you need to mark your place in a book, please use a slip of paper; please do not use pens or other objects as placeholders as they may damage the pages and binding.

Theft of library materials
Theft of library materials is a major offense. Any person suspected of, or witnessed in the act of, theft or mutilation of library materials is subject to disciplinary action. Individuals will be held financially accountable for replacement (cost of item plus processing fees) of missing or damaged materials.
