Specialized Databases Available Through
the
Digital Library |
Databases are useful to help you find articles or images from
magazines and newspapers on a variety of topics. Some of the online
services provide full text articles (but often without any photos or
graphics) but some do not.
When researching topics, articles may cover topics with a narrower
focus than books, and can be especially useful for researching
subjects that aren’t otherwise well represented in the FIT Library’s
collections.
Start your research for articles with these recommended databases:

StyleCat
Online Catalog
lists all books, magazines, and non-print material the FIT library
owns. You can search using keywords and/or by author, title,
subject, or more-- alone or in combination. Use online Help or ask a
Reference Librarian for help with your search if you are not finding
what you need.
StyleCat is available on computers
in the Library and remotely through the
Library web page.
Examples of subject terms to use include:
- Fashion in
motion pictures
- Film posters
- Motion picture actors and
actresses
- Musical films
- Theatrical costume
- Theatrical

- Theatrical make-up
- Women in motion
pictures
- Also search
by
designer name, e.g. Adrian, Edith Head, Bob Mackie,
etc.

Picture Files (Located at the Circulation
Desk, 5th floor ) |
The picture collection is located at the
Circulation Desk. You can search for picture files in StyleCat, the
Library Catalog. You may borrow up to 20 pictures in two envelopes
at a time. Pictures circulate for 3 weeks with a 1-week renewal.
