This office, located centrally in the C building, provides audio visual equipment and technical support services for classroom faculty, students and administrators. Faculty can reserve & book equipment, request technical assistance, Daytime requests ( 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Friday) must be picked up and returned here. Evening and weekend requests will be delivered and picked up by media personnel. In addition, this area houses DVD &Tape duplication &format transfer services. Programs can be duplicated onto DVD or VHS media, programs can be converted to US standard or vice-versa, and off-air recording of broadcast or cable channels can be scheduled.

The following is a list of the audio visual equipment available for use in the classroom and other school locations from the Media Station, C305B ext 7895:

LCD projectors, laptop computers, DVD players, vcr’s (vhs & ¾”), video monitors, 35mm slide projectors, overhead projectors, document cameras, camcorders (MiniDV & vhs), audio cassette recorders/players, cd players, portable public address systems, microphones (wired & wireless), and televisions (27 – 35”).

 

DVD & VIDEOTAPE DUPLICATION and INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS CONVERSION

The Media dept. provides duplication services for Students, Faculty and Administration. These services are generally free of charge, except for Fashion Shows, where a nominal fee is charged to the student to cover the cost of the DVD and tape stock. Media formats include DVD-R, DVD+R, VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Hi8 and 3/4 inch.

Foreign videotapes recorded in PAL, M-PAL, N-PAL, SECAM and MESSECAM can be converted to the U.S. standard (NTSC) or visa-versa. For any of these services, contact the Media Coordinator’s office, x8229, or the Media Station, x7895

TELECONFERENCING (Satellite)

Media Services operates two satellite dishes for down linking satellite delivered programs and conferences onto campus. One dish is a fixed position, KU Band unit that downlinks the New York Network, SUNY’s state-wide satellite network. New York State agencies, SUNY campuses and other related organizations use this network to deliver training. business and educational programs to a network of 63 campuses throughout the state. The other dish is a dual KU & C band steerable unit used to downlink programs and events from any commercially operated satellite. Programs can be downlinked and distributed to a variety of campus locations for viewing. All teleconferences must be scheduled through the Facilities Rental Office, ext 7644.

 

VIDEOCONFERENCING (COMPRESSED VIDEO/ISDN)

Media Services maintains and operates an ISDN based videoconferencing system, located in the A building, Room AC12. It is a real time, interactive video conferencing system that operates over ISDN phone lines. Designed for groups from five to twenty, the system is used by SUNY administrative personnel and state officials for meetings and conferences where multiple sites can participate. However, the system can be used by faculty members for educational purposes, provided the other sites are equipped with similar equipment. Videoconferences must be scheduled through the Facilities Rental Office, ext 7644.
