Tape Backup Schedule for Network Directories

This schedule follows most industry standards. It is a basic tape backup procedure covering daily changes and a full backup of all drives and systems once per week. When we backup up files, all directory structures are included!

Backups are to be done at midnight each day and checked for completion each morning!

Schedule
Monday - Friday;
Incremental backups all systems (Instructional, Administrative)

Sunday,
Full backups of Administrative VMS systems
Full backups of All NT/W2000 systems
Full backups of all Unix systems

TAPE Library

Tape numbers and descriptions are to be entered into TAPLIB (the tape library) when the backup takes place, not before and not after. All tapes are entered with the correct backup program listed, the correct date, tape number and label.

BACKUP Savesets

Backup savesets will be saved according to the following policy. Tapes are not recycled until after they have expired according to policy.

  • FIT keeps every full backup saveset for the previous eight weeks.
  • FIT keeps the last full backup of every month for one year
  • The last full backup of each quarter (March, June, September and December) is kept on permanent save. (There may be additional permanent saves on Administrative systems)

Off Site Storage

The first work day of each week (usually Monday) the previous week’s full backups will go to an off-site storage facility.
