Password Change Policy
Changing your password protects your data from
intruders. It also helps us protect FIT's resources and its network. Please help
us to keep your data secure.
In order to maintain the security of your account and files, it is recommended
to change passwords regularly. The following policy will go into effect on
February 3rd, 2004. You will have 14 days to change your password and then the
schedule below goes into effect.
For access to the network, passwords must be at least 6 characters long and must
contain at least one CAPITAL letter, one lowercase letter and one number. The
password must be changed at least once every 120 days.
For access to Banner, passwords must be at least 6 characters long and include
at least one special character or number. The password must be changed at least
once every 120 days.
For access to privileged accounts, (these are accounts used by operations and
information technology) passwords must be at least 8 characters and include at
least one special character or number. The password must be changed at least
once every 30 days.
NOTES: All passwords are case sensitive -- PassWord is different than password.
Do not share your password. You are responsible for anyone logged into your
account
Do not write your password down . If you must keep a record of it, do not store
it in your desk or on your monitor.Do
not pick passwords that would be easy for someone to guess,
such as a password containing:
ˇYour name.
ˇYour children's or partner's name.
ˇStress related words, like "deadline" or "work".
ˇSports teams.
ˇThe current, or your favorite season.
ˇRepeated characters like aaaaaaa, fffffff.
ˇThe current month.
A complex password is useless if you cannot remember it. You
should choose a
password you can remember and yet is complex. For example,
Msi5!YOld (My
Son is 5 years old) OR IhliCf5#yN (I have lived in
California for 5 years now).
