Attention FIT Dell Laptop Computer Users:

Dell is recalling selected laptop batteries due to concerns for potential overheating. If you have an FIT-supplied Dell laptop computer one of the following models, go to this website and check your battery to see if it is in the recall.

To see the battery number, turn OFF your computer (shutdown), then remove the battery. The serial number you need to enter on the Dell web page is on a label ON THE BATTERY itself.


Dell Computers that might have a battery that needs to be replaced:

    Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810

    Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200,     9300, 9400, E1505, E1705

    Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90

    XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710



If you find that your battery is in the recall, Call IT Customer Service at 212-217-4357 (on campus, call 7-4357) with the computer model number and the battery number. We will arrange for a replacement of your battery as soon as possible.



Attention FIT Apple IBook G4 and G4 Powerbook Users:

Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances. The affected batteries are used with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4. Go to this website to check your battery to see if it is on the recall list.
