McAfee Virus Protection for Students, Staff & Faculty
The use of Virus Protection on any and all computers connected and/or used
at the Fashion Institute of Technology is now mandatory. Due to the high
rate of viruses released into the wild, some 100 per week, IT for FIT must
take proactive steps to try to prevent infection from spreading rampantly
throughout the college.
In order to facilitate virus control IT for FIT has entered into an
agreement with Network Associates to provide virus protection for the
college. IT for FIT is aware that providing protection is a 24 hour per day
job, and that it does not end when you leave the lab, your dorm room or your
office. Therefore, IT for FIT has procured services to install either Mcafee
VirusScan for Windows or Mcafee Virex for Macintosh computers throughout the
college. In addition, since our responsibility to our community does not end
at the college doors, FIT has also extended rights for all of our students,
staff and faculty to run this software at home.
We strongly urge you to install these virus protection products at home on
your Macintosh or Windows PC at no charge to you. All you need is a valid
user name and password to download the software to your computer. If you
cannot download the software, you can stop by the customer service desk on
the 1st floor of 236 W. 27th street to request a CD.
