SUMMER 2009 COURSES

Summer abroad courses are offered in England, France, and Italy. To register for a summer study abroad course, students must first contact the professor teaching the course for an interview in person or by phone. The student is also required to obtain the professor's signature of approval for acceptance. In addition to the steps above, non-FIT students must submit a transcript of all college work, a brief statement regarding their interest in the course, and an academic recommendation to FIT's Office of International Programs.

Summer programs are offered for academic credit, students are required to pay tuition charges, air travel and accommodation program costs.

FM 226: International Buying and Marketing

Students, under faculty supervision, visit principal European cities to study the factors involved in fashion marketing and the international customer’s attitudes about fashion. FM 491: Summer Internship, Fashion Merchandising in London

LONDON
A summer internship in a London-based merchandising company. Scheduled for a minimum of 120 hours from the end of May through June. Includes three 3-hour classes based at FIT prior to departure, as well as three seminars in London. Completion of daily journal, oral presentation, and written report are required. MW 271: International Comparative Design

NEW YORK/PARIS/COMO/MILAN
This course will enable students to increase their ability to analyze trends, colors, fabrications, and apparel details from three international fashion hubs: New York, Paris and Milan.

Students will learn how to conduct primary design research required for the development of a structured contemporary fashion collection. They will then travel to Paris and Como/Milan, to gather additional source and market information, and complete the research for their final presentation with the collaboration of their FIT professor and a professor of Milan Politecnico University.

PH 119: International Photographic Study and Practice

COMO/MILAN/FLORENCE
This basic elective photography course focuses on the photographic image within a global environment. Students explore cultural themes and develop an understanding of digital photographic techniques including the proper use of digital cameras, managing digital files and sharing images via an image sharing website.

The photography department of FIT is offering its first study abroad course in northern Italy. The class will be based in Como with easy access to the splendor of Lake Como and the cosmopolitan energy of Milan. FIT is partnering with Politecnico di Milano for the class. The Politecnico di Milano has state-of-the-art photography facilities that include shooting studios and digital labs. Apply Now!

SD 211: Surface Design Research in Paris (Pre-Req. HA 112)

PARIS
Learn extensive design research while abroad in Paris; through on-site visits to museums, libraries, stores, design studios, galleries and trend forecasting companies. Research an area of design interest for hard and/or soft product. Students are required to keep a journal/ sketchbook, give a weekly oral presentation of their researched material and write a paper about the projected outcome of their research. Apply Now!
