INTERNATIONAL FASHION DESIGN IN FLORENCE AND NEW YORK
PROSPECTIVE FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS


If you are a PROSPECTIVE FIRST-YEAR STUDENT and would like to begin the International Fashion Design program in FLORENCE, ITALY, please follow the instructions below.

If you are a PROSPECTIVE FIRST-YEAR STUDENT and would like to begin the International Fashion Design program in NEW YORK CITY, you must formally apply to FIT through the regular admissions process; follow this link to
Admissions and then choose "How to Apply" from the left-hand navigation menu. Early in your first semester at FIT, stop by the Office of International Programs, Room B119. For more information, Informational Meetings will also be held during the Fall Semester.

Acceptance to either program does not guarantee a student visa to study in the United States or a student visa to study in Italy.


APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 5, 2009 (For Academic Year 2009-10)


SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Be sure to submit your completed application, Portfolio and Home Design Test together. Make sure to have a way to track your application materials should it be lost in shipping.


APPLICATION MATERIALS:

To begin your first year in Florence, you must submit the following 6 or 7 items. Your application will be reviewed by both the Office of Admissions and the Fashion Design Department. Applications will be reviewed only when complete.
 

  1. Online Pre-Application This is only a pre-application which will allow the Office of International Programs in New York and in Italy to assist you with the SUNY Admissions process. After submitting your online pre-application, you must proceed with numbers 2-6 and 7 if applicable.

  2. SUNY Undergraduate Admissions Application Take a few moments and apply to SUNY via the online application.

  3. Application fee of $40.00 (USD).

  4. Academic History and Autobiographical Essay must be completed online.

  5. Official Transcripts and Diplomas from secondary and, if applicable, post-secondary institutions attended. See International Student Credentials in the Registrar's Office.

  6. Fashion Design Home Test and Portfolio requirements will be sent to you after your application has been completed and is received by FIT.

    The Home Design Test requires the applicant to complete four specific fashion sketches. The portfolio should include 6-10 additional fashion sketches and photographs of garments constructed by the applicant which demonstrate sewing and/or creative abilities.

  7. TOEFL: A minimum score of 79-80 (ibt [Internet-based]), is required if you are not a native English speaker.

Eligible students will be contacted. All applicants to the International Fashion Design program residing in the U. S. may be required to come to FIT for a personal interview prior to acceptance into the program.

After the entire application has been processed, students will need to provide documentation of health insurance and vaccinations.
