What are the study abroad options for currently enrolled FIT students?

What courses do I need to take before I study abroad?

A.

For information about academic requirements and required coursework prior to studying abroad you should contact the academic advisor for your major. Contact information for academic advisors and department chairpersons are listed on the Contact Us page of this website.

If I am not an FIT student, am I eligible to apply to FIT summer study abroad programs?

A.

Non-FIT students may apply to the following summer abroad courses. Please contact the instructor for more information about the course:

Is Financial Aid available to students applying to a study abroad program?

A.

In most cases, yes. Financial Aid may be available to students that participate in semester and academic year abroad programs, but not for summer or winterim abroad programs. The Financial Aid Office reviews requests for financial aid on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to see if you are eligible.

Q.

How do I apply for a U.S. Passport?

A.

Information about obtaining, replacing, or renewing a U.S. passport can be found at the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs website. All necessary forms can be downloaded from their website.

Q.

Am I required to apply for a visa if I am accepted into a study abroad program?

A.

Visa requirements vary from country to country and are updated on an ongoing basis. It is most likely that a visa will be required for full-time study abroad. The Office of International Programs is available to assist in this process.

Students traveling to Italy can find information at the website for the Consulate General of Italy in New York City.

How do I register for FIT classes for the semester I will be abroad?

A.

The Office of International Programs will process your registration for the semester that you are studying abroad.

Q.

How do I register for FIT classes for the semester after I am abroad?

A.

The study abroad application will provide information about registering for the courses you will need in order to graduate.

Pre-registration material for your returning semester will be forwarded to you at your overseas institution during the semester. You are to register via the internet. The course catalogue and class schedules are available on the FIT web site at https://webregsrvr.cc.fitsuny.edu/. If you have a business, medical, registration or library hold you will not be able to register--contact the Office of International Programs to assist you in removing these holds.

When are the informational meetings and pre-departure orientation meetings scheduled for study abroad programs?
