INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
In today's global business environment, international
experience is increasingly important. You need greater
international awareness, foreign language skills, and an
understanding of different cultures. The inclusion of
study abroad programs on your resume is an asset, and
FIT's many offerings can prepare you to live and work in
a global community.
United Kingdom, France, Italy, Hong Kong, Mexico, Canada, and
Australia are some of the locations where FIT study
abroad courses are offered. The wide range of
specialized programs offered by the college, whether
it's a short study course during the summer months or an
entire semester overseas, provide you with the
opportunity to broaden your design sensibilities,
sharpen your business sense, and stimulate new ideas
about career choices. The FIT Office of International
Programs is available to help you explore these
possibilities.
PLAN AHEAD
Start thinking about studying abroad early in your
college career because it requires careful planning. If
a study abroad course or program is not offered in your
major, you may be able to apply credit toward related
area courses, liberal arts electives, or free electives
which you have not already fulfilled.
The Office of International Programs coordinates all
international programs approved by the college and
provides administrative and logistical support to
faculty and students in study abroad programs. Through
this office, students have the opportunity to study
abroad with programs sponsored by the Fashion Institute
of Technology or through one of the college's many
exchange or consortium programs. With the prior approval
of the academic department, FIT grants academic credit
for work completed in these study abroad programs.
All study abroad programs are approved by the
appropriate department, the divisional dean, the
Curriculum Committee, the Academic Cabinet, the
President and registered with the SUNY Office of
International Programs.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to the programs discussed here, students
have almost unlimited choice of international venues
through the many other study abroad programs offered by
the
State University of New York. FIT is also a member
of the
College Consortium for International Studies.
Students have the possibility of joining more than 90
programs offered through the Consortium's member
institutions.
