a conference on the discipline-specific technologies reshaping
the practice of teaching art and art history -- October 7th, 2005

This year's conference focuses on the ways that digital image libraries and newly developed digital tools are reshaping the practice of teaching art and art history.

Recent developments in social software make it possible to reclaim the valuable and serendipitous interactions of the slide library within the digital image repository. Such tools allow students and faculty to link images to each other and integrate them into blogs and Eportfolios. Students can link text to sections of an image using newly developed image annotation software, encouraging close visual analysis and interaction. Integrating such tools into digital image libraries creates a far more powerful environment for socially constructed learning and research.

Small Tools/Big Ideas: Integrating Technologies for Teaching Art and Art History will explore important new ideas and tools that will redefine teaching in the coming decade.
