REASONS FOR GENERAL EDUCATION
REQUIRED COURSES:
To be successful in your life you need to be a
broadly-educated individual, with proficiency in skills such as effective
written and verbal communication, basic mathematics, social sciences, history,
natural sciences, and understanding the peoples of other cultures. The mandatory SUNY General Education Requirements help you to
- sample
these area soon after coming to FIT,
-narrow down
your interests,
-reconsider
your major choices if you are in doubt,
-build solid
foundations for higher-level college work (many SUNY Gen Ed courses are required
Liberal Arts courses for your degree),
-meet
professors outside your major, who may be critical to your career,
-meet
students with interests different than your own, build new friendships,
-be exposed
to subjects, perhaps once in your lifetime, that may grow into serious hobbies,
or combined with your major, will create unique job opportunities, etc.

General Education Requirements enhance your personal development and work
cooperatively for your academic progress, that is, they enhance your learning
among unrelated subjects.
