SUNY GENERAL EDUCATION

Very often
during the next few years, while studying here at FIT, you will hear the terms
Liberal Arts Courses, SUNY General Education Requirements! Liberal Arts
course are the courses outside your major area, English, Math Science, Social
Science, History, Art History and Foreign Languages, which you are required to
take to complete your degree. The SUNY General Education Requirements are
courses that meet the New York State mandated general education required
learning outcomes. All FIT students intending to graduate with
a bachelor’s degree must complete 30 credits in General Education approved
courses to fulfill the SUNY
General Education Requirements. When you complete your major liberal arts
requirements, you will automatically take these required courses. Three credits in each of the following ten areas from a list of approved
courses must be completed (unless a waiver has been granted):
G1-
Basic Communication
G2-
Math
G3- Science
G4- Social Science
G5- Western Civilization
G6- The Arts *(Some
G6 courses are only 1.5 credits)
G7-
Humanities
G8- Foreign Language *(Must be 3.5 credit
non-conversational course)
G9- Other World Civilizations
G10-American History
