Committees Responsibilities



Executive

  1. To assist the Chairperson in carrying out the responsibilities outlines in IIIA.
  2. To create ad hoc committees from within its own membership to perform designated duties, when necessary to ensure efficiency of operation.  To appoint and to charge such ad hoc committees of the Association as may be deemed necessary, provided such committees do not encroach upon the responsibilities of the elected standing committees listed below.
  3. To supervise publication of the Faculty Manual (see VII).

Academic Standards

  1. To determine academic standards, to recommend for faculty action any major modification, and to supervise their implementation.
  2. To recommend candidates for academic honors.
  3. To adjudicate all individual student problems of academic record such as indices below 2.0, grade appeals, and appeals concerning credit loans and eligibility for graduation.
  4. To coordinate the activities of the departmental Academic Standards Committee.

Admissions & Registration

  1. To review and recommend Admissions and Registration policies and procedures for all students and to evaluate their implementation.

Committee to Evaluate Administrative Personnel

  1. To evaluate the performance of Deans and Administrators as provided for in the contractual obligations of the college and, if requested by the President, other administrative positions.
  2. To establish criteria for evaluation.
  3. To submit to the President at least three months to the date of proposed reappointment, a recommendation with respect to effectiveness of performance.

Continuing Education

  1. To review appropriate matter of interest to the Division of Continuing Education, including but not limited to evening, weekend, summer, and winterim programs.

Counseling

  1. To assist the Counseling Center in implementation needed programs, and in improving or expanding its services.
  2. To develop and sponsor workshop discussions for interested faculty and students.

Curriculum

  1. To review proposals for new courses and curricula and to report their recommendations to the President.
  2. To review the rationale of current offerings.
  3. To recommend modifications or innovations.
  4. To work closely with the President in long-range curricula planning.
  5. To work closely with the Registrar and with the Admissions and Placement Departments in the assessment of new curricula.

Library/Media

  1. To act as liaison between the Library/Media Department and the faculty.
  2. To provide advisory and information services about library/media objectives and development.
  3. To formulate programs that encourage the widest possible use of the library and audiovisual facilities by students, faculty and industry.

Nominations & Elections

  1. To implement Section VI of these Bylaws.
  2. To prepare and circulate all slates of nominees and supervise all elections.
  3. To maintain and publish records of elected officers and committee chairpersons and members.
  4. To establish procedures by which faculty may volunteer for service preferences.
  5. To hold elections for Faculty Representatives to the F.I.T. Student / Faculty Corporation.

Personnel Policies

  1. To coordinate general faculty welfare within the framework of the college's contractual obligations and the college's sponsors.
  2. To plan faculty development programs in conjunction with Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  3. To review and amend the Faculty Manual as needed.

Sabbaticals

  1. To recommend to the President candidates for sabbatical leaves.
  2. Faculty elected to this committee shall not be eligible to apply for sabbaticals during the term for which they were elected.

Student Affairs

  1. To explore and make recommendations in all areas of student concern.
  2. To recommend and where possible to implement policies concerning such non-academic but educational activities such as assemblies, fashion shows, programs involving parents, and lecture, concert and film series.
  3. To work closely in an advisory capacity with the administrative officers charged with responsibility for the college calendar of events.
  4. To explore the increasing involvement of students with the community and the community with the college.

Tenure & Promotion

  1. To recommend to the President, in accordance with the UCE contract, candidates for tenure, promotion, appointment, reappointment and certificates of continuous employment.
  2. To make recommendations to the President on the appointment of new faculty when a department recommends appointment above the first step of Instructor, or above the first salary step for a part-time faculty member.
  3. To formulate and coordinate the departmental and college-wide procedures for appointment above the first step, reappointment, tenure and promotion in accordance with the UCE contract.
