ASSISTANT VICE
PRESIDENT FOR ENROLLMENT SERVICES APPOINTED
Kelly A. Brennan, formerly
chief enrollment officer and director of student information at Mount
Sinai School of Medicine, joined FIT on February 1 as assistant vice
president for enrollment services. Brennan has a broad background in
student services; at Mount Sinai, she created a new division that
integrated enrollment planning with student services to increase
operational efficiency and strengthen the accuracy of student
information. Prior to joining Mount Sinai, she worked in student
development at the University of Alabama, where she also launched and
directed the university’s executive EdD program and, as a student,
received her PhD (in higher education administration), MA, and
bachelor’s degree.
DEAN FOR GRADUATE STUDIES APPOINTED
Mary E. Davis, currently
chair of the music department at Case Western Reserve University, has
been appointed dean for the School of Graduate Studies. Davis, who has
been with Case Western since 1998, also serves the university as
associate director of the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities and
director of the Culture, Creativity, and Design Interdisciplinary
Alliance. She is an advisor to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
and a prolific author and editor. Her degrees include a PhD and AM in
musicology from Harvard University, master’s degrees from the New
England Conservatory of Music and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins
University, and a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College. Davis will
join the college in July.
ENGLISH AND SPEECH
ESTABLISHES STANLEY SOLOMON AWARD
The English and Speech
Department has established an endowed award named for Professor
Solomon, a film and literature lover and longtime faculty member who
died last year. The award will support a student concentrating in film

FASHION DESIGN FACULTY
MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE IN FASHION WEEK FUNDRAISER
Lawrence Pizzi will be a
contributing designer at Code Purple, a NYC Fashion Week fundraiser to
raise awareness of and combat Africa's malaria epidemic. Code Purple
takes place at 7 pm on February 16 at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space

STUDENTS PRESENT
WINNING PAPER AT BROOKS BROTHERS
Fashion Merchandising
Management majors Craig Carriger, Nicole Collet, Joshua Garner, and
Ashley Olan presented their paper on social-media merchandising
strategies to Brooks Brothers executives on January 3. The executives
selected the group's work as the winning submission in a competition
held last fall. Each team member received a certificate and a

RESIDENTIAL LIFE STAFF
HOLDS DIVERSITY COUNCIL-SPONSORED TRAINING
On January 19, Residential
Life hosted a Safe Zones training program for its department, Athletics
and Recreation, the Counseling Center, Educational Opportunity
Programs, Health Services, and Student Life. Run by Envision, a social
justice training and consulting organization, Safe Zones training
educates higher education professionals in LGBTQ issues, terminology,
and support. Residential Life staff will promote LGBTQ awareness among
students this spring. This event was made possible through a grant from

MEMBER WINS MAGAZINE AWARD, COVER
Phyllis Harbinger's firm,
Design Concepts/Interiors LLC, won the Living Room (Traditional)
category in Westchester Home’s Best Design Awards, announced in the
winter 2012 issue and at a ceremony held on January 26. Her winning
design is featured on the issue’s cover. For more information, contact

PHOTOGRAPHY FACULTY
MEMBER HAS SOLO SHOW
Erin Gleeson’s food
photography is currently on view in a solo exhibition at the
International Culinary Center, at
462 Broadway. The show will run through March 15. She also contributed
three photographs to Feast Your Eyes,
a group show held in January at the Powerhouse Arena, in Brooklyn, as
