Michael Hyde was awarded the Katherine Anne Porter Prize
in Short Fiction for his short story collection What Are
You Afraid Of?, which will be published by University of
North Texas Press later this year.
Barbara Janoff recently finalized a contract with
Allworth Press to write The Designers' Guide to Business
Writing.

Kasle and Marion
Levine, along with Ann Denton (Textile Development and
Marketing) and David Brogna (Home Products Development)
received a Teaching Institute seed grant to develop their
workshop series on Speaking Across the Curriculum.
They presented four workshops from 15 Feb. - 17 Feb. 2005.
Sydne
Kasle, along with Robert Vassalotti (FMM) and Ann Denton
(Textile Development and Marketing), presented "Helping
Students Think Reflectively: Making the Shift between
Inductive and Deductive Thinking" on Thursday, February 24
from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the CET (B502). This
presentation is sponsored by the Center for Excellence in
Teaching.

Mikell and Marion
Levine lead a roundtable discussion on misperceptions of
professional communication (and classes) called "Rules and
Restrictions or Useful Skills: Combating Misperceptions of
Professional Communication" at the Popular Culture
Association and American Culture Association National
Conference.
Amy
Lemmon, along with Monique Citron (AMC), Daria Dorosh
(Fashion Design/Art), and Melanie Reim (Illustration),
presented "Teaching Creativity" on Tuesday, April 19 from
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the CET (B502).
Barbara Janoff coordinated the third Writing for
Learning workshop. The CET hosted Bard College's
Institute for Writing specialists to help us foster our
students' critical thinking skills.
