Each matriculating student at FIT's
academic performance is reviewed at the end of the fall and spring semesters by
the Committee on Academic Standards to ensure that they are progressing through
their major program of study. Students making unsatisfactory progress at
the College are identified as soon as possible to assure that appropriate
academic advice and assistance is provided.
An automatic academic probation
status is granted to all full-time or part-time matriculated students whose
semester and/or cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls between 1.75 and
1.99. While not immediately dismissed from the College for unsatisfactory
performance, students on academic probation must demonstrate they do have the
necessary skills for academic success by getting grades of C or better, and
raising their GPA to above 2.0 in order to restore their performance to good
standing. All students on academic probation are limited to taking a 12
credit course load to ensure a better chance of raising their GPA.
Completing a Strategies for Success Workshop,
or seeing a counselor individually in The Counseling Center is required by the
Committee on Academic Standards. The workshops and individual sessions aim
to help students to identify and resolve problems contributing to academic
difficulties. |
