HFA 023
Basic Drawing
This introductory course can be your passport to the world
of perspective and still-life drawing. You'll develop basic
drawing skills, working in both black-and-white and color
media.
HFA 024
Basic Life Drawing
Study basic anatomy and proportion as you develop your
drawing ability. You'll sketch a live nude model using
quick-and extended-study techniques.

Portrait Painting for the Beginner
Learn basic techniques,
including the use of sketches, for constructing a finished
portrait. This course covers both traditional and
contemporary artistic approaches.

Basic Sculpture
This course introduces you to figurative sculpture focusing
on proportion, composition, content, and sensitivity to the
subject. You'll complete two projects, working with live
nude models.

Experimental Media
Watercolor, crayons, acrylics, collage, assemblage, and mask
making are among the wide-ranging media you'll explore in
this course. Imaginative solutions to both two-and
three-dimensional challenges are emphasized.

Bridging Painting and
Drawing
Pencil to paint, paint to pencil: Learn how to work with
crossover mediums to combine drawing and painting techniques
in your artwork. You'll work with pencil, ink, oils, and
watercolors. (Occasionally, nude models may be used as
subjects)

Drawing Fashion
Bridge the skills of fine art and fashion drawing while
learning the basics of drawing and color. In this class,
you'll sketch and paint draping, shoes, and hats with a
variety of techniques and materials. You will also explore
fashions used in fine art paintings throughout history.

Cityscapes
The NYC skyline has always inspired artists. Let it spark
your creativity as you develop paintings from photos,
sketches and on-site observation. When weather permits,
you'll work in public spaces like the NY Public Library of
42nd Street and Grand Central Terminal. Your goal is to
produce two or three finished paintings during the course.

Architectural Rendering
Learn how to use basic
perspective easily to render architectural styles for
buildings and interiors.
this class explores the use of one-, two-, and three-point
perspectives. Color mixing and color theory are demonstrated
through their use within each medium: watercolor, pencil,
ink,
and mixed-media. Learn how to combine these techniques and
media to create portfolio-quality work.

Design/Composition/Color Theory
Discover the principles of design and color theory as you
create drawings, paintings, and collages. You'll also
explore the roles design and color play in fashion,
architecture, advertising, fine arts, and graphic, interior,
and surface design.

Cast Drawing
Learn to render life and anatomical forms the classical way,
from casts and sculpture, and explore the ways light and
shade can stimulate the artist's eye. Perfect for students
who wish to study the human form, but prefer not to work
from nude models.

Discover water-based media, including watercolor,
pen-and-ink, gouache, and acrylic. You'll learn how to
render detail professionally and explore the expressive
possibilities of the materials.

Fine Arts Portfolio
Create a first-class portfolio, or perfect your existing
portfolio for presentation to college review committees.
Develop new skills as you create drawings from live nude models,
still-lifes, and interiors, using perspective drawing
techniques. All drawing media are encouraged.

Fashion Sculpture for Fashion Designers
Create realistic figurative sculptures that showcase your
fashion and accessory designs in three dimensions. Working
from a live model you will sculpt a 24" life-like figure and
use it as a foundation to sculpt your garment and accessory
designs---- from hip-hop to couture---- for additions to
your portfolio.
