Advertising Design Basics

Have you ever wanted to create your own magazine or ad campaign? How are typography, color, and design used to communicate visual ideas? This course gives you an exciting introduction to the advertising/graphic design profession and teaches you important hands-on paste up and design skills. Create a promotional piece to generate interest and communicate clear visual ideas.
Coursework is hands-on and does not involve computer design.

Illustrator for Beginners

Adobe Illustrator is vector based software used to create illustrations and logos for the commercial art industry. Students will learn the powerful drawing and type tools in Illustrator, and are encouraged to use their creativity to produce original artwork and graphics. A mini portfolio of class projects is produced during this course. (Taught on Mac platform)

Advertising and Graphic Design Portfolio

Improve your art and design work so that it accurately represents your talent and discover what colleges are looking for in your portfolio. This course teaches you the best way to present both your work and yourself in interviews. You'll develop your art and design sensibilities while creating new projects to strengthen your existing portfolio.
Previous basic art experience required. Please bring samples of work to the first class session.

Computer Basics for Magazine Design-

Produce your own original magazine using professional industry software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Emphasis is placed on creativity as you use your own photographs, artwork, poems and essays to express your point-of-view. Skills to be learned include layout design, image enhancement, scanning photographs, and manipulating typography. Your finished magazine may be used as a portfolio piece when applying to college.

Adobe InDesign

Give your graphic designs a professional edge and learn how to create brochures, flyers, and stationary using Adobe InDesign, a program that combines features from Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Introduction to Advertising

Explore the basics of advertising and design while creating ads for use in your portfolio. Learn how to create an advertising concept by studying existing ad campaigns and learn how to communicate your message to your intended audience. Study the basic principles and elements of design, in addition to various advertising techniques. Use these skills to create original ads.
Materials needed: printer, scanner, paper, pencils, and markers.
