SXD 635  Quick Sketching for the Pet Product Business    .9 CEU  $150.00

Learn to capture your pet apparel and lifestyle design concepts through simple sketching techniques. Draw basic dog or cat figures, and add your pet fashions complete with illustrated details in flat sketches. Proceed to drawing accessories and lifestyle items like beds, play stations and feeding dishes. If you have your own line or plan to launch one, enhance your ability to communicate your ideas to samplemakers, patternmakers, and contractors. Although no professional art training is required, basic creative abilities and familiarity with the pet product arena is helpful.

Do you have concepts for a new pet product or a line but don’t know how to create an identifiable brand that stands out from the competition? Whether your aim is to market pet fashion apparel, accessories or other lifestyle items this course enables you to identify your customer segment (high end, mass market, etc) and determine what makes your brand unique and relevant to that consumer. Once you’ve achieved this insight, you learn to create the right image, including brand name, logo and collateral materials. Information includes promotional tools and other aspects of the branding process to help you develop a cohesive and unique product story that stands apart in the marketplace.

SXP 325 Designerspeak for Technical Designers and Product Developers                                                                            .9 CEU  $235.00

Learn to communicate effectively with designers to produce first rate samples, that lead to a more efficient pre-production process. Learn to interpret your designer’s habits and style, establishing a complementary relationship for you, your staff and the fit model. Discover the importance of memorizing the sloper’s measurements, the sewing machine’s functionality and setting up a proper workstation. The art of diplomatically making suggestions to adjust the designer’s creations for better fit is stressed. Methods for making a superb first sample are demonstrated including corrections and tips for making the pattern, cutting and sewing.

SXW 130 Make Your Own Buttons, Bands, Buckles, and Bangles

Design and make your own buttons, headbands, buckles and bangles. Work with Plexiglas, a highly malleable easy to use plastic to create fun, colorful, retro pieces, hot in today’s fashion market. This unique program starts with design coaching and teaches how to cut, file, shape, carve, drill, polish, color and finish your pieces. Once you master the basics, you can begin execution on a matching set. Skills learned can be performed at home with a minimum of tools, equipment and inexpensive materials.
