The dense, built-up surfaces of Sono Osato’s sculptural paintings are produced by embedding text into layers of mixed media. Silent Language #13 from Osato’s Silent Language Series features tiny bits of reclaimed machinery, antique typewriter parts and bones. The dispersed text, covered by thick layers of encaustic and oil paint, suggests an ancient, hidden language that can no longer be accessed. Sono Osato holds an M.F.A. from the California College of Arts and Crafts and a B.F.A. from Arizona State University. Represented by Brian Gross Fine Art in San Francisco, where she has had several solo exhibitions. Osato has also shown her work throughout the United States, including at the Oakland Museum in California and the Nexus Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta. Sono Osato is based in New York City. > Website > Biography |
