In Gabriel Barcia-Colombo’s interactive digital video installations, tiny people are projected into glass vessels, becoming the artist’s specimens. His figures are preserved in jars, speaking to our culture’s obsession with personal archiving, preservation of cultural archetypes and social media’s ‘collecting’ of human beings. A Point Just Passed, comprised of a time punch clock, video projection and a glass dome, allows the viewer to incrementally advance the age of the projected figure with each of the 365 clock punches. Time and memory are gradually erased, ending with darkness at the 366th punch. Barcia-Colombo earned his M.P.S. in New Media Arts at New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program and a B.A. in film production from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema Television. His work has been included in exhibitions and arts festivals across the United States and abroad. Gabriel Barcia-Colombo is based in New York City. > Website > Biography |
