FOREWORD

This one time… is the end result of a year-long curatorial group project by the eleven students of the 2006 graduating class of FIT’s Master of Arts program in Art Market: Principles and Practices. In a process that requires much discussion, persuasion, compromise and consensus, the students chose seven contemporary artists, and identified the permutations of memory as the common link in their work.

In addition to selecting the artists and developing the theme of their exhibition, the students also negotiate the use of a gallery space; secure the loans; build the exhibition website; design the catalogue; write the press release, wall text and labels; plan the opening reception; and install the show. They deserve heartfelt congratulations for this formidable group effort, which is not only the culmination of their studies but also a full-fledged independent professional achievement. Special thanks are due to the dedicated faculty, particularly to Beth Miller for her able guidance throughout the exhibition process, and to Art Market graduate Kiana Malekzadeh for hosting the exhibition in her gallery.
