Request for Readmission
Eligibility:
All former FIT degree students who wish to be readmitted should complete the
Request for Readmission form below. This form should also be used by
current FIT degree students graduating from one major who wish to be
readmitted to another at the same level. Readmission to an FIT degree program
is based on timely completion of the Request for Readmission,
good academic standing (a minimum FIT GPA above 2.0), and space
availability in the semester you are re-entering. Requests for
Readmission
cannot be finalized until Admissions and your department know how many
current students will be returning to the semester you have requested; this
can be as late as the week of registration.
Note: for all 'fall only' majors, applicants can only enter a semester
that corresponds with their sequential semester status. For example, for a
'fall only'
major, semester 2 is offered in the spring and semester 3 is offered in the
fall.
* Major courses are valid for up to ten years from the
point of admission. After ten years, major courses previously taken must be
approved by the department chair. An evaluation of previous courses taken
will be provided to you following readmission to the college.
Instructions:
If this form is submitted after the application
deadline (January 1 for fall and October 1 for spring), priority
consideration cannot be guaranteed.
After your Request for
Readmission has been submitted, the Office of Admissions
will mail you a letter including your assigned FIT login IDs, PIN, and
Password, which you will need to activate your application. Using the
Online Information System, you will activate your
request by submitting an Academic History and Essay form briefly explaining
your activities since last attending FIT. This online form is part of
your application. FIT Admissions will not process your Request for
Readmission until after the
Academic History and Essay form has been submitted. For students seeking
readmission into a new Art & Design major, a portfolio evaluation is
required.
If you have attended any post-secondary institutions since last attending
FIT, arrange to have all official documents sent in sealed envelopes directly
from the issuing institutions or awarding authorities to:
Fashion Institute of Technology
Office of Admissions
Seventh Avenue at 27 Street, Room C139
New York City 10001-5992
Documents from all institutions must be provided (with no exceptions),
regardless of the type of institution, subjects taken, or their relevance to
FIT. Such documents should include all subjects taken, all grades/marks
earned, and any degrees awarded.
Important note to students admitted more than 5
years prior to re-entry:
FIT does not hold prior academic records for more than 5 years. If you were last
admitted more than 5 years prior to your re-entry semester, ALL
documents must be re-submitted to the Office of Admissions. Please
arrange to have official transcripts for high school and ALL colleges attended
sent to the Office of Admissions.
Your application will remain incomplete and a decision cannot be rendered until all required
documents are received. Please check
the status of your application online and your FIT email for updates.
Checking the Status of
your application:
After you apply, it is your responsibility to monitor that all
admissions requirements have been met. Check your application status using
the Online Information System and your FIT email account. All email
correspondence will be directed to your FIT email address.
Admission is contingent upon paying the tuition
deposit by the date indicated in your acceptance letter. If the deposit is
not paid on time, you will forfeit your place in the upcoming semester. Your name may be
placed on a waiting list, and you would then be considered for admission on a space-available
basis.
Application Form:
Please read all of the instructions
carefully. Incorrect and omitted information may delay
the application process.
Submit only one Request
for Readmission. If you
elect to change your major after the application deadline date, admission
cannot be guaranteed; however, every effort will be made to accommodate your
request. To change your major after your application has been submitted, use
the
Change of Major Request Form.
Once you have submitted the application,
print a copy of your confirmation for your records.
