Academic Skills Tutoring Center

About Tutoring

The Academic Skills Tutoring Center is a free service available to all full-time and part-time students who are enrolled in remedial and credit bearing courses from all departments and disciplines.  We offer group and walk-in tutoring in a wide variety of subjects.

Although we offer tutoring for many different courses, we cannot guarantee that we can find a tutor for every course or that we will be able to match a student's hours of availability.

Disability Support Services

If you require disability support services or special accommodations, please contact the FIT-ABLE office at 212-217-4090 or go to room A511A Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Weekly Appointments

During the fall, spring and summer semesters, you may register for an appointment by filling out an application in A608b.  When you come to register, you must bring a copy of your schedule or course syllabus and know your professor's last name.

Most tutoring is done in groups of two.  You may receive one hour of tutoring a week in two separate courses.  Once you are placed with a tutor, you will be expected to attend your tutoring sessions throughout the semester or until you feel confident to work on your own.

Askonline Online Tutoring

Online tutoring is available for certain courses.  For further information about online tutoring, please call the tutoring center at 212-217-4080 or go directly to our website www.fitnyc.askonline.net

Walk-In Hours

For students who may not want to attend tutoring on a weekly basis, we offer walk-ins in the following subjects: computers, CAD for Interior Design, writing, math (including retail math), patternmaking draping and sewing.  In addition, we offer a workshop  called, "Let's Talk English" for ESL students to practice conversational English.  No appointment is necessary. The schedule will be posted in the Academic Skills Center around the third week of the Fall and Spring semesters.
