Does ITM have an
Associate degree program? |
|
|
|
No,
currently, ITM does not have a lower division program,
thus all incoming students join it with an earned
Associate degree or a minimum of 60 credits. ITM also
attracts students who have earned Bachelors, Masters,
and Doctorate degrees. |

When does
ITM accepts new students? |
|
|
|
ITM accepts new students
both in the Fall and in the Spring semesters. |

When is
the best time to submit admissions applications for ITM? |
|
|
|
Admissions applications
should be complete and hand-delivered to FIT's Office of
Admissions. The best time to submit applications are:
- For the Fall semester:
No later than January 1st.
- For the Spring semester:
No later than September 1st. |

What is a good Grade
Point Average (GPA) to be admitted to ITM? |
|
|
|
A good GPA to be admitted to ITM is
around 3.0. If your GPA is slightly below 3.0, you might
consider including in your application a personal
statement explaining your personal situation and what
you have done to improve your academic record. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Is a personal
statement required in the application? |
|
|
|
No, a personal statement is not required
in the application. However, if there are special
situations in your life, you might want to include a
statement to ensure that the Admissions Committee is
aware of those situations. It is important that this
statement is included in your application package and
not sent separately afterwards. |

Is a
portfolio required to be admitted in ITM? |
|
|
|
No, a portfolio is not
required to be admitted in ITM |
|

|
|
|
|
|
Are letters of
recommendation required in the application? |
|
|
|
No, letters of recommendation are not
required in the application. However, if your GPA is not
strong, letters of recommendation from teachers and
employers might help the Admissions Committee to
understand better your application. It is important that
these letters are included in your application package
and not sent separately afterwards. |

Does the ITM faculty
review admissions applications? |
|
|
|
No, the ITM department and its faculty
does not review admission applications. Applications are
reviewed by Admissions Officers and the ITM department
does not have any input in admissions decisions. |

I am a freshman in
another college and I am thinking to join FIT's ITM when
I complete my Associate degree. What liberal courses
should I be taking now? |
|
|
|
Having completed the following 24 liberal
arts credits plus two credits of health and physical
education will make you a good candidate:
One "English Composition" course (3 credits)
One "literature" or "speech" course (3 credits)
One "Macro-Economics" course (3 credits)
One social science courses such as "General Psychology"
or "Introduction to World Affairs" or "Introductory
Sociology" (3 credits)
One "science" and one "math" (6 credits)
One "History of Western Art and Civilization" course (3
credits)
One liberal arts course from "English and Speech", or
"Foreign Languages", "History of Art", "Science" and
"Math", or "Social Sciences" (3 credits"
One "Health and Physical Education" course (2 credits)
If you are missing a few of these courses, you might
still be admitted, however, you will be expected to take
them while you are in the ITM program.

How will I be informed
that my application was accepted? |
|
|
|
You will receive a letter from Admissions
Office indicating your acceptance and any conditions if
there is any.
|
|
|
|
|

How do I inform FIT
that I will be attending the ITM program? |
|
|
|
As soon as you receive the letter of acceptance from
FIT's Admissions Office, bring in person, or mail a
check/money order with a tuition deposit of $100 to:
Fashion Institute of Technology
Bursar/Cashiering Operations
Seventh Avenue at 27 Street - Room B127
New York, NY 10001- 5992
Include a photocopy of the acceptance letter and make
sure that your complete name appears on the check. This
tuition deposit payment will indicate that you are
accepting to become an ITM major. Mail this payment as
soon as you receive the acceptance letter.

I received the letter of
acceptance to ITM, when will I be advised about
selection of classes? |
|
|
|
ITM holds a mandatory orientation session
for new students the week before classes start. In this
session, new students meet the faculty and advisors,
learn more about the program, select classes, get their
ID cards, etc. Visit the ITM
website, or call the ITM secretary at (212) 217-8490
for exact date of mandatory orientation session.
