A Sad
Announcement
Posted: Oct. 26, 2006
Thomas Thacher, ITM
Major
The Department of
International Trade & Marketing sadly announces the
death of our student Thomas Thacher. Tom became an ITM
major in 2004, after having retired from a successful
career in information technologies. He was planning to
graduate this December and was exploring a career as a
researcher in international business. Tom suffered a
stroke last Thursday and died peacefully last night
surrounded by his family and friends. His classmates and
professors remember Tom as a friendly and bright individual. Tom made many friends here
in his class projects and in the ITM's practicum in
Costa Rica last January. The ITM community extend its
sympathy to Tom's wife, Connie, and his family.

Benefit
Breakfast Will Raise Scholarships Money
The ITM Department will be
conducting its 2nd Annual Scholarship
Breakfast and Tenth Anniversary Celebration on
Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 7:30am. At last
year's inaugural scholarship breakfast, we raised some
$70,000 allowing ITM to endow one full-time
scholarship in perpetuity and provide a stipend for
student travel abroad; in part to the generosity of our
graduates. This year we hope to best our earlier
fundraising efforts.
Joe Gromek, President
and Chief Executive Officer of the Warnaco Group,
will be receiving the prestigious ITM Executive
Leadership Award during this event. Also recognized
at the breakfast will be students Alpana Aggarwal’07,
first recipient of the annual Gemini Shippers
Association Scholarship, and Thu Cao Minh’06,
beneficiary of the Advisory Board's 2006 Study
Abroad Travel Stipend.

Majors Create Global Marketing Strategies
On August 9, 2006, ITM
majors Hae Lee, Richard Lowe, Jennifer Raines, and Liezl
Santos traveled with Professor Pamela Ellsworth to
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where they had been invited
to deliver a presentation to the Cotton Board at the
Carolina Inn on the campus of the University of North
Carolina. The students were winners of Cotton
Incorporated’s cotton awareness campaign, in which two
FIT classes (representing more than 50 students divided
among 11 teams) compete to develop a compelling message
– through research and communication skills – about the
use of cotton products in the international marketplace.
The first-place winners receive an $8,000 grant to be
applied to tuition. Two second-place winning teams
split a $4,000 prize.
