THE WARNACO GROUP, INC. SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

TWO ITM MAJORS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH $4,350 EACH

We are pleased to announce that the Warnaco Scholarship Selection Committee has chosen Cheung Shuk Kwan, known to many of us as "Cynthia", and Mariko Fujii as the recipients of the 2009-10 The Warnaco Group, Inc. Scholarships.

Cheung "Cynthia" Shuk Kwan

Cynthia is an outstanding ITM student, having worked as a merchandiser for the Forth and Towne Fabric Division of Gap International Sourcing Limited in Hong Kong and Assistant General Manager of the Textile Sales Department of Pangrim (Hong Kong) Limited for ten years. She also was a re-sourcing associate of the Textile Research and Development Division of Threadtex Inc. in New York for a year. She is fluent in English and Cantonese and conversational in Mandarin.

In recognizing her accomplishments, the Selection Committee pointed out Cynthia’s excellent scholastic record, her vast international experience, her leadership potential as the International Trade Student Association’s elected photographer and public relations official, her exemplary presentation skills, and her clear career goal of initially working for a global firm as a stepping stone to eventually founding her own textile and apparel business. The interviewers were hugely impressed that Cynthia used her ten years of work experience as a means to raise funds to pursue her higher education studies at FIT.

Mariko is also a gifted ITM student with an excellent background in jewelry design, having earned honorable mention at the Martin Flyer Jewelry Design Competition in May 2008. She worked at Summerset Jewelry, Anna Hu Fine Jewelry, Jacob & Co. as well as Grunberger Diamonds Co. in New York and Tokyo. Mariko also worked for over two years with Delphi Automotive Systems in Japan. She is a native speaker of Japanese and fluent in English.

Mariko Fujii

In her selection as a scholarship recipient, Mariko was recognized by the Selection Committee primarily for her professional presentation, her extensive contribution to society as exemplified by her work with Cambodian children as a representative of the Tokyo Church of Christ, her excellent grade point average, her keen ability to link her own educational evolution with Warnaco’s growth, and her lifetime goal of bridging the first and third worlds through the knowledge and experience that she is gaining in New York.

The judges were impressed with the applicants, noting the research and preparation conducted about the company prior to the interview as well as deep knowledge of the issues facing the fashion industry.

We hope that you will all join us in congratulating Cynthia and Mariko for their well-deserved recognition.
